Your Shuttle Discovery photosSamsung teases its ‘Next Galaxy’Samsung has decided to pour some fuel on the fire and release a Web site teasing its “next galaxy,” which is likely the update to the Galaxy S II. Most people have been calling this phone the Galaxy S III, though that name is not confirmed. All we know about the next Galaxy is that it will be unveiled at Samsung Unpacked in London on May 3.
Samsung takes a dig at frenemy Apple in one of the teaser videos, which advises smartphone buyers not to act like sheep. “With technology that fits in this easily, you can now stand out from everyone else,” Samsung’s teaser says.

The many faces of Android:?Depending on which phone company is doing the marketing, an Android phone can be masculine and futuristic, like a shoot-’em-up video game, or friendly, like a stuffed animal. How will the next Galaxy phone help you do that? That remains to be seen, since The Verge reports there have been no reliable leaks about what the smartphone looks like.
Rumored specs indicate that the Galaxy S III will have a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, a 4.8-inch display, and a great rear-facing camera — likely somewhere between 8 MP and 12 MP. PhoneArena also released a report Monday saying that leaked benchmark tests indicate that the phone is faster than speedy Android phones housing the Snapdragon S4 or the Tegra 3 and edged out the iPhone 4S, as well.
Before you get too excited, though, CNET reports that an unnamed person in the British telecom industry has said that the new phone could be a relatively small update, with a 4.7-inch screen, 1 GB of RAM and is likely not going to be called the Galaxy S III. Its main new feature, according to the report, is called “Human Interaction,” a feature that will be able to tell when a user is looking at the phone and lock when he or she looks away.
Given the success of the Galaxy S II overseas and in the United States, the launch of its next iteration could be a big event. While the phone didn’t end up being an iPhone killer as some had thought, Samsung has shipped 20 million units of the phone in 10 months, according to a report from Yonhap News. The company is now the largest Android smartphone vendor, according to IDC.
